I am a contemporary landscape painter, developing works that are drawn from emotional responses to the landscape. Artwork Title: HUNTING TRIP
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 41 x 61cm
Price: $850
2020 will certainly be remembered as a year of rebellion, earth’s rebellion, which is now forced to evolve in order to curb the greatest enemy, MAN.
Along with its own deep changes also earth’s creatures become rebels in their own lands. The Whistling Kites for example are the third cause of bushfires in Australia. They carry small fiery branches, from land to land, to enlarge the areas of the bushfires. This will force the weaker animals to come out from their hiding spots to get to safety. A vile illusion created by the kites just to turn other animals into easy prey.
A bit like this 2020 that is exposing the fragility and weaknesses of modern man. The normal and the everyday habits have become a source of fears and awes.
The "flying" and "carrying" of the whistling kites become means of spreading for an evil (the fire) too difficult to control.
For us too, "traveling" and "exploring", always perceived as an extension of culture to tear down borders, have become means of spreading the last of evils for the humankind (COVID-19). And so, just as that fiery branch widens the fire until it is uncontrollable, travels spread the pandemic and the closure of borders.

I experienced absoloute stillness and peace. Sunsets at dusk disguising the usual murky hue of the water with an exact mirror image of its reflection. Artwork Title: THE ATOMIST NOTION
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 40 x 30cm
Price: $370
Like a tidal wave, an avalanche that does not cause any noise, it rolls through fantasies and swallows up everything that it encounters on its way - all life, all colour, every scent, every sound and every feeling.
What is lost to nothing disappears as if it never existed. If the longed-for saviour does not arrive quickly, there will be no trace of fantasy and not the slightest memory.
(Michael Ende, The Neverending Story)
This quote applies today more than ever. I interpret "the nothing" as the tech industry taking away our imagination, society getting sucked into their phones, losing our ability to create our own entertainment. We don't read books anymore, we don't listen to vinyl anymore, instead of playing board games we play on our devices. Our brains are changing.
This painting is a digital rendition of a photo of a sunset in an industrial area near my town and was digitally distorted, then painted on canvas, thereby reclaiming the traditional side of art while still making use of technology.

It expresses the primal emotion of depression. It's finger-painted to express depression's debilitation and accurately depicts the absence of joy. Artwork Title: SUCKLING AT THE TEAT OF THE EARTH AND SEA
Medium: mixed
Size: 60 x 60cm
Depression eases when this sufferer meets sea and earth. Connections to elemental forces have profound impact on the disease. As an Artist , painting is like a process of liquid thought. It’s a means of story telling, the power to express a particular moment in time in that Landscape. Medium: Woven oil drawing on paper
Size: 48 x 50cm
Price: $800
The Vessel for Collective Memory concept came to me listening to our politicians argue over Covid 19 border closures and contact tracing methodology. There seems no room for memory to be used as a source of knowledge, as they bumble onto more pronouncements over the Indian outbreak. I thought of a thicket being a metaphor for such discussions and have woven it into a leaky open weave basket to capture our wisdom.

Artwork Title: THE OCEAN SWIMMER
Medium: mixed media, paint, resin, on plywood
Size: 28 x 54cm
Price: $1500
My day job, they call me Bob Plumb.
Straight up and down as the moniker implies, plumb bob.
Can he fix it?
Bob the builder
if I can’t fix it… it cant be fixed.
There was one particular job, I don’t have the skills to do the description justice without a string of expletives inappropriate for the situation… a level of incompetence that is illegal and sees the owner, being taken without consent.
The same character in the position of disadvantage, stopped to tell me his story of swimming the English Channel.
11oC water temperature for 15 hours, a storm blew in, thrush in his mouth from salt water, vomiting for three hours… he didn’t say anything the entire swim, just got on…
He told me, there was a point where he asked for a sign from god, emphatically stressing he wasn’t a bible basher or happy clapper, I laughed and assured him he was safe as I’m an atheist who meditates.
There in the English channel in a puddle of piss and spew, three dolphins turned up on cue and swam with him three kilometres.
I liked the story so much I painted this

Artwork Title: OUTSIDE IN, THE FOLKS ARE FINE
Medium: Collage and acrylic paint on canvas
Size: 51 x 61cm
Price: $580
This artwork has been inspired by the recent state of isolation we are placed in by no free will. We might find we have to start moving more inward, to the vast inner space of our thoughts and imagination, a place we have perhaps neglected for a long time.
Artwork Title: HAWKESBURY VISTAS
Medium: Soldering ion on board with ink, acrylic
Size: 17 x 50cm
Price: $900
This free standing curved painting is double sided and is made of 3 vacuum pressed pieces of timber that have been glued to together and pressed to form a curve.
I love working in a horizontal format and have found working with a convex and concave shape gives the viewer the opportunity to read each image in a heightened way as the curved surfaces nicely mirror the contours of the landscape.

Artwork Title: CLOUD DRAGON
Medium: oil
Size: 51 x 61cm
Price: $500
Dragon paintings
The genesis of the Dragon paintings was an aerial shot of receding water in Queensland’s Channel Country. There were extraordinary shapes formed on the landscape from the water left after the area flooded. One shape this particular reminded me of a dragon so I painted a series of totally different ‘Dragons’ with two connecting aspects, their shape, derived from the landscape, and the use of dots in their outline, a tribute to how indigenous artists create places and tell stories in their art.
The amazing part about the shape is that it can be turned upside down but still retains its dragon form.

Artwork Title: I WAS LOST, BUT NOW I AM FOUND
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 60 x 60cm
Price: $2800
I was wading out, one very low tide, examining all that was exposed when, along came two dogs, darting and chasing, splashing and playing.
This guy, would fly through the shallows and then suddenly stop, as if to see where he was, lost, uncertain of where to go next. Then he would see his buddy and off he would fly again, a hydrofoil through the water, four paws as one fin and then….stop……lost again.
This is how I find my life, I charge along , full of gusto and energy and desire, to race down my chosen path…… and then….. i stop, or am stopped, by another project, a new path, or just a speed bump….the speed bump that is life, and I have to reassess, get my bearings …….. and then I am off again…..like a tireless inventor, seeing possibilities in everything.
Reacting to everything…..even if I don’t know why.

Medium: mixed media on 3 x birch boards
Size: 25 x 60cm

I walk around Glebe Lagoon in Bega every day, fascinated by it's raucous energy and resilence through drought, flood, blazing heat and freezing frosts. Bats, birds, insects and mammals (like me) live in it or alongside it, all of us in a state of trust and cooperation with each other.
For me it symbolises the interconnectivity I think all of us on planet Earth yearn for. It's a tangled, smelly, richly populated place which speaks to my core and it's become my emblem of hope and wonder in a world which often seems as if its forgotten we're all in this life thing together.
For better or worse.

Sierra is a local potter who was inspired by one of my paintings to make a cup, which she later gave me. I wanted to continue the collaborative riffing and so I painted Sierra's Cup On Stripes, which is a composition including Sierra's cup - and within it, a portion of my original painting - as well as the plate she and I both love and the shirt I usually wear when painting.
This kind of creative collaboration is one facet of what makes life shine for me; inspiration, mutual respect, creativity, freedom of expression, humour, love and beauty.
This painting symbolises all of that for me.

Because the kookaburra is known to symbolize laughter, happiness, community, family, and healing, I chose to misplace a kookaburra, alone and inside, with the shadow of a window to the outside world to represent how so many people are separated or isolated from their friends, families and communities. Medium: oil on paper
Size: 30 x 42cm
"Jar of Honey" is something I have wanted to paint for a long time, to me honey represents life and the perfection of nature, but also the plight of bee populations being decimated by pesticides. Only through hard work do we get the sweetest results. According to science honey cannot go bad and jars of honey have been found in Egyptian tombs after thousands of years still okay to eat. I choose to set the honey in a neutral background to emphasize it's warmth and ambrosia like qualities as a representation of life giving qualities. I also hope this makes audiences think on where it comes from, how it has arrived, and what our honey provides.

Artwork Title: MY JOURNEY WEST- TRIPTYCH
Medium: Acrylic and mixed media on canvas

To create 1 artwork or many simultaneously was the question I began with when creating this triptych. Abstract expressionism relies heavily on the elements of design and mark marking but we can become constrained and narrowly focussed working 1 piece at a time, especially with small canvases. Painting many together frees up the focus and the mark marking, allowing the smaller pieces to be seen as part of a larger whole. Each canvas can stand alone, but together tell a more complete story of their creation.

Artwork Title: POSTCARDS TO THERESA MAY
Medium: digital photographs
Size: 35 x 28cm
Price: $200
On 17 February 2019, two days after Theresa May’s Government had been defeated for the second time on her Brexit deal with the EU, journalist Tom Peck wrote an article in The Independent, on the British Prime Minister. Peck likened her to the rugged Nokia 5210, a shockproof, water-resistant mobile phone that was renowned for its indestructibility. Fascinated by this I looked up the Nokia 5210 and started reading old reviews from 2002. Bizarre as it seemed, the journalist had hit on something that resonated: the words used to describe the phone in the reviews somehow seemed to speak of Theresa May and the political situation. I used some of these words in two digitally designed postcards. Another element of the Nokia phone, the unusually shaped “on” “off” buttons suggested shouting people; they represent the “yes” “no” protests seen daily in the press at that time. NB. Dimensions include frame; photo of postcards taken prior to framing

Beautiful objects represent the colonial world that is my heritage and privilege...objects I love...and sometimes resent...for the way we amass them and the way they mask deeper immaterial truths.
Likewise from the beginning of European settlement beautiful things and the ‘civility’ they depicted disguised the truth of this harsh land.
All this swills around as I imagine untangling from the dominant colonial narrative that has defined me, most of us, since birth.
