In this body of work, I wanted to paint places that stood out from their surroundings by the use of vibrant colours and neon lights. I wanted to capture different times of days under different weather conditions to give a mood in each work and to make it exciting to paint.
When I paint, one of my goals is to create a composition that is pleasing to my eyes. I go to these places and photograph them over a few days, trying to get the right setting and lighting for a painting and making them shine in their natural environment.
I also use cars and people to get the right composition in a photograph. I believe taking the initial photo for a painting is the most important step of the process. I get as much enjoyment out of the photography that I do with painting the subjects I choose.
